Max Verstappen pulled no punches as he delivered a furious interview after being knocked out of qualifying at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

On Sunday morning, qualifying took place at Interlagos after the original session was postponed due to heavy rain.

In the closing stages of Q2, Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll crashed into the barriers at Turn Three.

As a resul the session was red flagged, meaning Verstappen, who was 12th at the time, was knocked out.

Due to his five-place grid penalty, the reigning world champion will start the race in 17th place.

Speaking afterwards, Verstappen was absolutely furious with the delay in deploying the red flag.

He said: “The car hits the wall, it needs to be a straight red. I don't understand why it needs to take 30-40 seconds for a red flag to come out. It's just b***s***.

“Honestly, I let it go. It's so stupid anyway to talk about. It's ridiculous.” You can watch the footage below.

In another interview, Verstappen said: "I find it unbelievable! The car goes into the wall, broken, clearly destroyed, but they wait 30-40 seconds so everyone else can just complete their lap times. I can't wrap my head around it."

"It really blows my mind."

During a replay shown on Sky Sports, Verstappen’s father, Jos, was also not happy with how Q2 ended as he was seen punching the table in frustration.

Heading into the weekend, Verstappen had a lead of 47 points over McLaren’s Lando Norris in the drivers’ standings.

The lead was cut to 44 points after Saturday’s sprint race, with Norris winning ahead of Oscar Piastri. Verstappen originally finished third but was handed a five-second penalty for a VSC infringement, meaning he was demoted to fourth place.

In Q3, the session was also red-flagged after Aston Martin star Fernando Alonso found the barriers. After the session resumed, it was again stopped after Williams driver Alexander Albon crashed out.
