The latest on Gianluca Scamacca, Angelo Ogbonna, and Aymeric Laporte ahead of West Ham United vs Manchester City (Premier League)

All the latest team news and injuries as West Ham and Manchester City kick off their Premier League campaigns this weekend.

West Ham and Manchester City begin their 2022/23 Premier League campaign in a clash at the London Stadium this weekend.

Pep Guardiola's side will be looking to win the English top-flight crown for a third successive season come May, after winning four out of the last five trophies on offer in the division.

West Ham and David Moyes will be looking to build on a hugely impressive season last time out, which also featured an emotional run in the UEFA Europa League.

This weekend, the two sides go head-to-head with both teams wanting to secure the first three points on offer of the season.

The last time West Ham met Manchester City, a thrilling 2-2 draw at the London Stadium in May set up a dramatic final day in the Premier League for Pep Guardiola's players.

There will be far less pressure this time around, but within either camp, the players will be setting their standards as high as possible.

Ahead of the clash this weekend, here is a complete look at the team news and injury situations concerning both teams.

West Ham team news

The Hammers' big money striker signing Gianluca Scamacca is a doubt this weekend, David Moyes has stressed.

The Italian centre-forward has had little to no time to settle in to things at the London Stadium, and is yet to pull on the Claret and Blue shirt ahead of this weekend.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, manager Moyes said of the striker, "He’s probably a little bit behind, so I’m not expecting him to be available this weekend.

"He's not had the chance to play. He's not played any pre-season minutes, so it probably makes it very difficult for us to put him out on the pitch so soon.

"His training is a little bit behind at the moment compared to the other players. He has trained, but maybe not as regular and as consistent."

Centre-back Angelo Ogbonna is working his way back to full fitness following a serious knee injury last year.

David Moyes confirmed the Italian would be getting some minutes under his belt in Premier League 2 ahead of the weekend however, in an encouraging boost to West Ham supporters for the weeks to come.

He explained, "Angelo Ogbonna is playing this afternoon for Under-21s. He had his first 90 minutes last week so he's doing really well, but he's obviously not ready yet to be to be considered for the first time at the moment, but he's coming along nicely and maybe in another three or four weeks he'll be much closer to that."

Manchester City team news

Pep Guardiola has just one player ruled out through injury this weekend.

Aymeric Laporte is expected to be out of action until at least the end of August, after undergoing surgery following a problem sustained at the back end of last month.

No further players were stated as being doubts or injured for the trip to West Ham, when Pep Guardiola addressed the media on Friday morning.
