Huddersfield Town Join Race To Sign Manchester City Academy Star

Huddersfield Town have entered the race to sign Manchester City starlet James McAtee on loan this summer, according to a new report.

Huddersfield Town have become the latest club to register an interest in Manchester City youngster James McAtee on loan this summer, according to a new report.

After another impressive campaign, predominantly with Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad (EDS), who were crowned Premier League 2 champions once again, interest remains rife in teenage midfielder James McAtee

The 19-year-old scored 18 goals and registered seven assists in 23 Premier League 2 appearances last season, netting hat-tricks against Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and also Club Brugge in the UEFA Youth League.

In February earlier this year, McAtee signed a new long-term contract until 2026 with the Blues after uncertainty over his long-term future at his boyhood side following widespread interest in the youngster's services across Europe.

McAtee made six appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions during the season, featuring in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup - though the teenager has long been reported to be keen to play consistent first-team football.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s star playmaker has been linked with several clubs across England’s top two divisions, notably Graham Potter’s Brighton, who reportedly made an £8 million bid to sign the midfielder last year.

There have been some suggestions McAtee could move to the Amex Stadium on loan this summer as part of Manchester City’s offer for Seagulls left-back Marc Cucurella, though Championship side Huddersfield Town are now said to be interested in signing the Salford-born playmaker ahead of the new campaign.

Steven Chicken of Examiner Live reports the Terriers are interested in signing McAtee on loan, though any move will likely be decided upon by Manchester City, who are yet to agree to a temporary move away from the Etihad for their academy talent.

The Premier League champions sanction loan moves for several young players every season, however very few who have endured loan spells have gone on to have successful careers in the Manchester City first-team - with McAtee highly tipped to be one of the CFA’s rising stars.
