Lewis Fiorini Joins Blackpool From Manchester City On Season-Long Loan

Blackpool have completed the signing of Lewis Fiorini from Manchester City on a season-long loan.

Championship side Blackpool FC have announced the signing of Lewis Fiorini from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal.

Fiorini has been with Manchester City since 2018, playing with their U18 and U23 teams. The English prospect is contracted at the Etihad until 2026.

When discussing his move to Lancashire from the Premier League Champions, Fiorini explained that he is excited to get started with the Tangerines and that they are a great fit for what he wants to do.

“I’m buzzing to be here and looking forward to the season ahead,” said Fiorini.

“I had options to go elsewhere, but coming to Blackpool was exactly what I wanted to do, especially having worked with the gaffer before.”

During the 2021-22 season, Fiorini spent time on loan with League One side Lincoln City, where current Blackpool FC head coach Michael Appleton was in charge.

It was an eventful season for the 19-year-old midfielder as he ended the season with six goals and four assists, making it his most productive season since moving up to senior football.

Lincoln City would end the campaign in 17th place with 52 points.

This is similar to where Blackpool FC finished in the Championship, sitting in 16th place.

It was a finish in which fans and staff members alike couldn’t complain about after the Seasiders were promoted from League One, a division which housed them since 2017.

Blackpool scored just 53 goals last term, an issue Appleton thinks Fiorini can help the Championship side overcome during the upcoming campaign.

“Lewis is a very talented player and is someone who will bring goals and assists to the team,” said Appleton.

“He’s one of those players that is only going to get better and better, and with his experiences in Dutch football and in League One, he’s already proved himself at a good level.”

Offensive energy is one of the things which Fiorini tales pride in and is looking to highlight during his season-long loan.

“I pride myself on providing the team with goals and assists, and hopefully I can do that at the next step-up in the Championship.” said Fiorini.

The English youngster made an appearance in Blackpool's friendly against Rangers on Saturday.
