It wouldn't be surprising if a non-boxing fan thought Rocky Balboa was a real-life boxer and It's only a testament to how influential Sylvester Stallone was on the big screen as a character, with the franchise still producing films to this date.

It's time, though, for a trip down memory lane with some rare behind-the-scenes footage from the first film.

That's right. It's Sylvester Stallone choreographing the big fight in the 1976 original film with Carl Weathers, who played heavyweight champion Apollo Creed.

Check out the rare footage below.

Awesome video, right?

Anyone who has watched the film remembers how surreal the fight between Rocky and Creed was in the film -- that's not to mention the epic training montage of The Italian Stallion preparing for his big showdown.

Rocky proved to be both a commercial and critical success, leading to a further five sequels and spin-off sequels in Creed.

Back in July, just when we'd given up hope of the return of Sylvester Stallone's iconic character Rocky Balboa, it was announced that negotiations have started for him to write and star in Rocky VII.

In 2018, Stallone had publicly announced the retirement of the character last year but in a recent interview with Variety, he revealed that a seventh chapter of the franchise is being developed.

The latest film is said to see Balboa take a young street fighter under his wing, who is living illegally in the US.

He explained: "Rocky meets a young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border. It's very, very timely."

Apparently creators are negotiating with Stallone, hoping for him to write the script as well as star in it, with the actor saying he's played the character for so long he feels a deep connection with the fictional boxer.
