Floyd Mayweather has caused controversy with fans after bragging about how much cash he has amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The United States has overtaken both China (81,897) and Italy (80,589) with the most confirmed cases of coronavirus (over 86,000 positive tests).

And boxing legend Mayweather, 43, took part in an Instagram Live session with American football free-agent Antonio Brown on Friday.

Mayweather, who retired from boxing undefeated with a 50-0 record, hit out at his critics for saying he didn't make smart investments.

"Even like with myself, 'Floyd gonna end up with nothing.' I made smart investments," he said.

"That's why, right now, with this huge s**t that's going on and all this crazy stuff that's going on... my investments are still paying off."

The ex-boxing superstar proceeded to lift up a huge amount of cash in front of the camera, which he would later claim was around $60,000.

Mayweather continued: "This is not about throwing this up in nobody's face or showing up. This is saying that... while it's a recession, I can still feed my loved ones.

"So, even when you showing your $60,000, you're letting the world know I can still feed my wife, I can still feed my children.

"You gotta let them know -- even with what's going on with me. Tough times don't last, tough people do."

However, fans have slammed Mayweather on social media and are furious with him flaunting his money during the pandemic.

"Anyone can hide behind money as a defense when they know they are falling apart inside," one Twitter user wrote.

While another, Jacob, posted: "What a shame that one of the greatest fighters of all time is and always has been a massive [expletive]. Thousands dying yet he's talking about his investments?"

A third said: "I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart if i was as loaded as him i would help the vulnerable out in these tough times [sic]."

And a fourth added: "To much money .... makes people ugly [sic]."
