George Groves beat Chris Eubank Jnr in the World Super Series semi-final on a unanimous points decision on a big night for British boxing.

The World Super Series has been an excellent idea with the cruiserweights leading the charge with some excellent fights. Tonight was the turn of the super-middleweights in a match up between George Groves and Chris Eubank Junior.

Tournament boxing is great because it forces boxers who might have avoided each other into a position where they have to face each other and create a fight that we all want to see.

That's exactly what happened when it came to the all English dust up between George Groves and Chris Eubank Jnr in Manchester on Saturday night, with the WBA and IBO super middleweight titles also on the line as well as a place in the final.

Despite being the WBA champ, and more experienced man at the weight, Groves went into the fight in Manchester as the underdog, at least according to the bookies.

Eubank Jnr, whose dad is considered one of the greatest British boxers of all time, was fighting for just his fourth time as a super-middleweight having moved up from middleweight in February 2017.

Groves' jab put distance between him and Eubank and he was mainly controlling the rounds but the younger man did break through with a good shot in the fourth.

In that same round Eubank was left with a deep looking cut above the right eye but it was following an accidental clash of heads.

Groves' looked so comfortable and in control for much of the fight and often left his opponent swinging and missing.

That happened again early in the eighth round but late in the same round both men landed with big shots as things started hotting up.

The IBO champ certainly upped the tempo later in the fight but much like his previous loss to Billy Joe Saunders it was his inactivity in the early rounds that inevitably cost him.

Round 12 was the highlight of the fight with Eubank really going for it. At the end the refs shirt was covered in blood and it even ended up on the camera.

It wasn't a classic but it was a highly entertaining fight especially as it went later and later.

Groves now moves on to the final where he could face Callum Smith. What next for Eubank Jnr?
