Creed III trailer gives first insight into latest chapter

Creed III trailer gives first insight into latest chapter

Last time out Creed took on Viktor Drago, son of his dad's old rival Ivan, but now he's set to take on a much more familiar foe.

Adonis Creed is set to spring back into our lives in March 2023, and there's now a first look trailer which shows us exactly who he'll be facing next.

The titular character, played by Michael B. Jordan, was first introduced to us in Creed in 2015, as the son of Apollo Creed gets out of a youth detention centre.

Having learned of his dad's boxing past, the younger Creed has since risen through the ranks to become a world champion himself, over the first two films.

Having, spoiler alert, defeated Viktor Drago, the son of the man who killed his dad, in the previous film, Adonis is set to face a much more familiar opponent this time around, as you can see in the video below.

Jordan is not only returning to his role as the lead character but the 35-year-old is also making his directing debut on the latest episode of the boxing saga.

As the trailer shows, he will be going up against someone from his past, played by Jonathan Majors, in what is likely to be a very emotional journey for Creed.

In the past, the trilogy has leant a lot on the Rocky films for inspiration, with Sylvester Stallone's character featuring in both, and the Dragos appearing in the second film.

The latest installment looks to be breaking away from that, with Stallone not featured in the trailer and not expected to appear in the film.

Creed's own past will be discovered, with Majors' character clearly having been a childhood friend of Apollo's son, before ending up in prison and missing out on a boxing career of his own.

Damian, Majors' character, tells his old mate he's 'coming for everything,' before the pair can be seen in the ring together, likely to be the crescendo of the film.

Taking to social media to post the trailer, director and Creed actor Jordan said, "My directorial debut?! Still sounds crazy to say but there's no film that has been more personal to me and no film I've felt more ready to steer.

"Excited to share the first trailer for Creed 3. To my cast & crew thanks for working so hard to continue the legacy of the franchise."

The tagline for the film is 'there's no enemy like the past,' and that could also apply to the new director, and his debut in the role, considering the huge past he has to live up to from the Rocky films and even the first two Creed outings.

And Creed will be seeing some blasts from the past as well, with Tony Bellew and Florian Munteanu set to reprise his role as Creed's former rivals.

Speaking to NME about the new film, the director explained why Stallone won't be in the film, for the first time, saying, "I think that Sly let it be known that he wasn’t coming back for this one but I think, you know, his essence and his spirit… there’s always going to be a little bit of Rocky within Adonis

" But this is a Creed franchise, and we really want to build this story and this world around [Adonis Creed] moving forward."
