Alexander Volkanovski Says He'd Embarrass Jake Paul In A Boxing Bout

The UFC featherweight king also said he'd have "fun" picking apart former boxing world champion Jeff Horn.

When his decorated career in the UFC is done and dusted, Alexander Volkanovski sees himself moving onto another combat sport - and his grand plans could involve a former boxing champion and some YouTuber bloke.

The featherweight champion will eventually hang up the four-ounce MMA gloves some day, but he plans on swapping them for a pair of 12-ounce ones instead.

That's right, the Wollongong native has his sights set on a boxing career after he walks away from mixed martial arts.

"There's a lot of boxers my weight. At the end of my UFC career, I'd love to do a bit of boxing," he told Wide World of Sports.

"If we could do it during the UFC career, there's a few obstacles you've got to get through but it's something I'd definitely do.

"I've even had a boxing match - I'm 1-0 in the pro circuit."

And it turns out he's got this eye on the perfect dance partner too.

"You've got Jake Paul calling out all the UFC fighters. I'd be happy to be the smaller guy taking on someone like that. It would be pretty embarrassing for him," he said.

"If he really wants a UFC fighter and he wants to take on a champion, let him go down a few weight divisions and I'll step up and show him this is a whole different realm."

Volkanovski isn't showing any signs of slowing in the octagon up just yet though.

The 32-year-old is in red hot form after dethroning one of the greatest featherweights of all-time in Max Holloway.

And with the ex-champ seemingly out of the picture, the latest reports suggest Volkanovski could face off against former 145-pound title challenger Brian Ortega in a bout targeted for February 2021.

But the idea of becoming the "featherweight GOAT" and even stepping up to the lightweight division at some point doesn't diminish Volkanovski's intrigue in boxing.

He's still under contract with Dana White but after hearing former rugby league player-turned boxer Paul Gallen call out ex-UFC middleweight champ Robert Whittaker, the MMA fan favourite knew exactly which boxer he'd fire shots at in return: Aussie Jeff Horn.

"Just the way he is. His boxing isn't real crisp," Volkanovski said.

"His footwork is very unorthodox. I think I could catch him.

"I know he's thinking about retirement. I've got a lot of respect for him because he's a respectful bloke but I think it would be fun."
