Russian club randomly rip into Tottenham Hotspur over trophy drought

Russian club randomly rip into Tottenham Hotspur over trophy drought

Spurs haven't won a trophy since the League Cup in 2008 but they've been very randomly called out by Zenit St Petersburg.

Tottenham Hotspur are busy minding their own business but Russian side Zenit St Petersburg have decided to mock their trophy drought.

Whilst Mauricio Pochettino took Tottenham to a Champions League final, Jose Mourinho was denied the opportunity to manage them in a League Cup final and Antonio Conte is making them challengers again, Spurs haven't won a trophy in some time.

In fact, the last time the north London club raised any silverware, outside of the Audi Cup, was in 2008, when they won the League Cup.

Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Dimitar Berbatov were amongst the names playing for Spurs that day, whilst Everton manager Frank Lampard appeared for the opposition, that's how long ago it is!

You'd expect that some of Spurs' rivals would enjoy mocking them for just how long it's been since they lasted silverware, and Arsenal fans do, you'd think the rest of the world would leave them alone.

However, FC Zenit's English Twitter page for some reason decided that they would use their impressive social media numbers to mock the Premier League club.

The Russian's have reached 4,444,444 followers on TikTok, which is pretty impressive, and whilst posting about it claimed they had as many followers as the days since Spurs last won a trophy.

For those who are fans of actual facts, Spurs are actually well short of the 4,444,444 day mark, which would actually be over 12176 calendar years.

Instead, Conte's team have actually gone 5351 days since anyone lifted silverware for the club, a figure you can follow on @_Spurstrophies Twitter, which is no doubt run by an Arsenal fan.

I mean personally I'm not sure how much it adds to your life as a Gunners' fan to be constantly reminded how long since Spurs won something every day.

The Gunners have been waiting since 2004 to win the league but have had plenty of success in the cups since, although they themselves did go from 2005 until 2014 without winning anything.

Spurs currently just four points away from the top of the Premier League, with their local rivals obviously topping it following Manchester City's loss to Liverpool at the weekend.

They face United on Wednesday night with Paul Merson thinking that Conte's side aren't going to be too desperate to win the game.

The former Gunners' player reckons that Spurs will be happy enough with a draw at Old Trafford, whilst United need to bounce back from the 0-0 draw with Newcastle United.
