Richard Madeley Called Out For Disrespectful Comment To Chloe Kelly

Richard Madeley Called Out For Disrespectful Comment To Chloe Kelly

Just days after Kelly scored the iconic winner in the Euro 2022 final for England, the Good Morning Britain reporter made the stupid comment

Viewers weren't happy after Chloe Kelly was 'disrespected' by Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley live on air. You can see in the video below.

Kelly brought football home on Sunday when the England star came off the bench to score the winning goal in the final against Germany at Wembley.

She instantly became an icon as she celebrated the goal by taking off her shirt, with the QPR fan recreating the celebration Bobby Zamora did when getting the side promoted to the Premier League in 2014.

The forward further endeared herself to the watching public, as if that were possible, by dropping the microphone mid interview post match to sing Sweet Caroline with her teammates.

So it's no wonder that she was invited on to ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning, to talk to hosts Madeley and Kate Garraway.

Madeley, a living tribute to Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge character, claimed the Manchester City forward could have previously walked into a supermarket and no one would have known who she was.

He then really made the world cringe as he compared the 24-year-old to his daughter and called her 'Coco,' because that's what he calls his child, also named Chloe.

The comment was unsurprisingly met with astonishment by fans, as the interviewer was called 'embarrassing,' 'cringey' and 'disrespectful.'

"Well done Chloe Kelly for resisting the urge to beat that f***ing creep Madeley until his arse bled," one fan, perhaps over zealously tweeted.

"Addressing England footballer Chloe Kelly as your daughters’ pet name ‘Coco’ is belittling and sexist, Richard Madeley," a second pointed out, "does this happen to male footballers? No. Then why should women have to humour this behaviour?"

Another opined, "Richard Madeley wrapping up his interview with Chloe Kelly by calling her 'Coco' "because that's what I call MY daughter Chloe" is exactly the sort of high level awkward cringe I can't cope with today."

A fourth added, "Richard Madeley you don’t interview someone then end with calling them your daughters nickname .. show Chloe kelly some respect , she’s more than earned it!"

"Chloe Kelly. being incredibly polite and professional in the face of Richard Madeley's overwhelming tide of cringe. I just want to Jill Scott him right off the telly," another posted, referencing Jill Scott's incredible outburst at an opponent.

And another pointed out that perhaps Madeley isn't the best person to be forcing nicknames on others, considering his own first name, saying, "Chloe Kelly has every right to call Richard Madeley by another moniker for his first name then.

"Dick."

On Sunday, the two sides fought out a fairly even first half but went into the break without either side managing to find the opening goal.

Just past the hour mark, substitute Ella Toone opened the scoring with an exquisite chipped finish, and Sarina Wiegman's side looked to end 56 years without England winning a major football tournament.

Lina Magull scored with just 11 minutes of normal time, a much deserved goal after Germany's dominance of the second half, taking it to extra time.

The game looked set for penalties before Kelly made herself a national hero, just months after recovering from an ACL injury, suffered in May last year, that threatened to keep her out of the Euros.
