A Phil Foden Mural In Stockport Has Gone Viral For Looking More Like Ross Barkley Than Him

A mural of Phil Foden has been completed in his hometown of Stockport but many think it doesn't look anything like him.

The Manchester City youngster helped his boyhood side to their fourth Premier League title in five years this season and was also named PFA Young Player of the Year.

He scored nine times and registered five assists in the league and it was one of the best campaigns of his young career.

It's seen the people of Stockport pay tribute to the 22-year-old with a piece of art that, quite frankly, hasn't gone down well.

There's no denying it's well put together, but social media users think it actually resembles Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley rather than Foden.

When Barkley first burst onto the scene with Everton he rocked a similar haircut to Foden's but now has a little more length on top.

You can understand why fans are saying it though.

One commented: "Ross Barkley... with a slit on his eyebrows."

Another put: "Did they mean to make it looked like a wanted poster?"

Someone tweeted: "If you're gonna do a mural at least do it right."

While another said: "This looks like a GCSE art project."

Foden had fierce competition for PFA Young Player of the Year, including Reece James, Jacob Ramsey, Conor Gallagher, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka.

It's the second year in a row Foden has won the award and he was delighted.

He said: "I'm really honoured to be honest, especially to win it back-to-back. It shows that I've come a long way this year with the consistency of my game, and I’m really pleased to win it again.

"All the best players in the world have got to show consistency and keep performing at the higher level, and this year I've just tried to do that and try and help my team as much as possible. I’ve been really happy with my performances this year.

"Hopefully, I can win the main award in the future, but it’s all about taking small steps and improving.

"I always love winning individual awards, it’s just nice to look at and see how far you've come so, yeah, I’m really pleased."

Foden is currently away with England on international duty but missed their games against Hungary and Germany after a positive COVID-19 test.
