Manchester United are close to completing their first signing of the summer transfer window, according to reports, with officials arriving in Amsterdam to wrap up a £40 million deal for Antony.

The 22-year-old forward, who scored 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances for Ajax last season, including six direct goal contributions in the Champions League, looks set to join former boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Alongside the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Jurrien Timber and Christian Eriksen, the Brazilian has been one of Ten Hag's major transfer targets since arriving – and it appears things are getting closer by the day.

In fact, United officials are due in Amsterdam on Tuesday, according to a Neil Custis report from The Sun, as they attempt to complete their first deal of the summer.

Back in May, former Sao Paulo winger Antony promised to "always stand" with Erik ten Hag after it was confirmed that he would leave Eredivisie champions Ajax to join the Premier League club.

"I want to wish you all the best at your new club," he said. "I also want to thank you for everything you taught me. I am thankful all the opportunities and learning every day. Know that I will always stand with you if you need me."

The news about Antony comes just days after Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola claimed that United are expected to reach an agreement for the player "very soon.”

Despite a relatively slow start to their window, it is set to be a busy summer for United.

And one of their top targets is Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold opened up about their ambitions to sign the Dutch midfielder last week.

"As a club we're doing everything possible to get the deal done, I've been up for days trying to get it done," he said.

"The money is there but there's things standing in our way which I can't say."
