Manchester United Have Been Voted The Most Toxic Fanbase In Online Poll

Manchester United scooped nearly 40 per cent of the votes in the SPORTbible poll.

Manchester United's supporters have been voted the most toxic fanbase in an online poll.

SPORTbible put the question out to fans on social media and then from the most commented answers, composed a poll consisting of four teams.

And it was United who scooped the unwanted toxic tag with a staggering 39.9% of the 17,000 votes cast.

Arsenal's fanbase, with its controversial AFTV fan channel, came in second place after accruing 27.8% of the votes - with Liverpool following behind in third spot on 19.7%.

Real Madrid fans have a knack for booing their own players as the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Iker Casillas found out and they occupy the fourth and final place in the poll with 12.6% of the votes.

But according to the audience, United are the worst set of supporters. Fans of the 13-time Premier League champions have grown frustrated in recent years following the departure of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

United's last league title came in Ferguson's last season in 2012/13 and the club are approaching five years without trophy.

Fans have regularly protested against their owners, the Glazer family and stormed the Old Trafford pitch last season - resulting in the postponement of the game against Liverpool.

In another poll composed by SPORTbible, 44.5% of fans said that Anfield had the most overrated atmosphere in the Premier League.

United's Old Trafford wasn't too far behind in second place with 38.2% of votes, with plenty feeling as though the 'Theatre of Dreams' isn't all it's cracked up to be.

St James' Park, belonging to Newcastle United, was third on 9.2%, while Leeds' home Elland Road finished off the voting on 8.1%.

Just short of 50,000 votes were cast in the poll.
