Liverpool flop Andriy Voronin has blamed Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher's Scouse accents for his struggles at the club.

Voronin was on Liverpool's books from 2007 to 2010 after joining from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer.

But things didn't work out for him at Anfield as the forward only made 27 appearances in the Premier League, scoring just five goals.

During his time at Liverpool, he had a loan spell at Hertha Berling before being sold to Dynamo Moscow.

The Ukrainian has revealed that he failed to settle at Liverpool, citing Gerrard and Carragher's accents - claiming he couldn't understand what the pair of senior Liverpool players were saying.

Asked about his time in England, Voronin told GOAL: "Scouse. I understood almost nothing, my English wasn't good anyway. When Carragher and Gerrard talked, I asked them to repeat it in English.

"Liverpool didn't suit me as a city overall, even though it has a lot of history to offer, such as the Beatles. My father is a big fan of the band."

It wasn't just the Scouse accent that put him off his game as the 42-year-old couldn't cope without a winter break and failed to adjust to the weather

"When I told him I had signed with Liverpool, he started crying," he added. "I also couldn't cope with the weather and the rhythm of the games without a winter break.

"I was just traveling and playing, which was very exhausting."
