Move over Sporcle, a new way for football fans to procrastinate is in town.

A version of the viral guessing game Wordle has now been created specifically for football supporters to enjoy.

The game, titled Footbl, challenges players to correctly guess the five-letter surname of famous player in only six attempts.

Green, yellow and grey boxes appear after each guess to indicate which letters are correct and in the right or wrong place.

A new puzzle is released daily on the site, which is already proving popular on football Twitter.

i newspaper chief football writer Daniel Storey posted a link to the game on his account, alongside the caption: “What we have all been waiting for someone more clever than us to make: Footballer surname Wordle.

“All we need now is someone to bring Sky Sports' daily Missing Men game back to life and I'll be sated.”

Football fans have begun posting their scores on Twitter, with some mixed results.

“Not my best effort but throwing a tantrum with a random word on the 5th go paid dividends,” wrote one fan.

Another added: “Class. Considering most of ft can’t spell a single players surname correctly this will be fun.”
