40-year-old Olympian says that admitting her virginity in 2012 tweet ruined her dating life

40-year-old Olympian says that admitting her virginity in 2012 tweet ruined her dating life

Olympian Lolo Jones previously admitted that her abstinence was the "hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life."

Olympian Lolo Jones has candidly admitted that her dating life has been left in tatters after she openly tweeted about her virginity.

The 40-year-old American star, who has competed as a hurdler and bobsledder, took to Twitter in 2012 and revealed to her followers why she was still a virgin.

According to Jones, she was single because men would “deuce out when I won’t put out” and wanted to “honour God [and her] future husband” with her abstinence.

During a 2013 interview on HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, the Olympian revealed her decision to remain a virgin was the “hardest thing” she had done.

“It’s just something, a gift I want to give to my husband. But please understand, this journey has been hard,” Jones explained.

“There’s virgins out there, I’m gonna let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.

“Harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”

Jones revisited her abstinence admission on comedian Kevin Hart’s Cold as Balls podcast back in 2020, but she admitted it had a knock-on effect on her dating life.

“That was a mistake. That killed all my dates after that -- like didn’t even have a chance. Like before, at least I had a chance,” she explained.

“Before, I’d like, tiptoe, ‘Okay, when’s a good time to tell him? Do I wait until he sees my personality a bit? Or do I just drop the bomb?’”

When asked by Hart if the lack of sex had helped her with the focus of her career, Jones insisted that she had trained at a “higher level of intensity” due to it.

“I have a higher level of intensity because I don’t have any pressure release. Everybody knows me as stressed out,” she added.

Jones has spoken openly about her desire to have a family in the future and has already taken steps to ensure it can become a reality in the future.

She took to Instagram in 2022 and revealed that had started the process of having her eggs frozen, with Jones being told she had a “great egg reserve for her age.”

“I have made the right move to prepare for a family if me and my husband want to try to have kids one day, we have options,” Jones said in an Instagram post.

“No one should be shamed for taking their time to figure out who their life partner is.

“A woman shouldn’t be shamed for wanting biological kids or wanting to know what it’s like to be pregnant and carry her own child.”
