An ultramarathon runner has "unboxed her feet" after one of her gruelling 100-mile races – and the footage has gone viral.

Katie Pollard, who goes by the name ultrarunkate on Instagram, is documenting her running journey with regular updates from mountainous and challenging trails, including the dreaded Javelina Jundred.

The Javelina Jundred is a 100-mile ultramarathon held at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Arizona, and is one of the most popular races in the United States, with over 850 runners taking part.

The course is without shade and daytime temperatures can reach 90°F (32°C).

Pollard, a Denver-born runner, posted footage from the race itself. "This is my 22-mile down," she said on her Instagram page, which has over 7,000 followers. "Three marathons to go. Obligatory ultra runner post."

A day later and Pollard delivered an excruciating post-race video of her battered left foot, as seen above. She wrote: "Having a field day with this content. lol, in case you’re wondering, the right foot is too gnarly for IG."

The video has received over eight million views and 100,000 likes at the time of writing, with many reacting to her swollen and blistered toes in the comments section.

One fan wrote: "I am a nurse AND a runner and I can honestly say: WHAT THE HELL IS THAT."

A second commented: "All completely optional btw," and a third added: "I liked it better before Instagram served this reel to an audience outside of trail running."

Pollard decided to get a professional opinion on whether it was an infection and posted footage from her hospital bed. She captioned the clip: "Update on how the dogs are since the last time they’ve been let out."

Here's how fans have reacted to the latest clip.

One wrote: "The way I’m so invested in your foot updates! I hope all is good and you recover quickly," and a second commented: "The medical professional taking a photo [laughing emoji]"

A third said: "I would not be able to resist popping or squeezing. You’ve got good self control."
