ODDSbibleRacing's Best Bets From Thursday's Action At Chelmsford, Ludlow, Newcastle and Taunton

We expect The Unit to go well at Taunton.

There's a host of domestic racing in Britain on Thursday, with Chelmsford and Newcastle staging flat meetings on the All-Weather, whilst Ludlow and Taunton host jumps cards. Clonmel also stage a jumps card over the Irish sea.

Here are Thursday's selection which includes our daily NAP and Next Best.

Atalante to make all at Chelmsford

Chelmsford 17:55 - MIGHTY ZIP 4/1

Lisa Williamson's charge slipped markedly down the weights after a number of dismal efforts and exploited a mark of 53 when scoring over five-furlongs at this track last week. He escapes a penalty for that success and off the same mark and with his confidence buoyed by that win, he looks sure to go close under 7lbs claimer Jordan Uys.

Chelmsford 18:25 - ATALANTE evens NB

Ryan Moore has a 33% strike-rate when riding in Britain in 2017 and he holds a good chance on Jeremy Noseda's four year-old filly. The daughter of Cape Cross ran four times for Andrew Balding last year and should prove better than a rating of 66 for her canny trainer.

Related to a number of winners including being a half-sister to a French 2000 Guineas winner, it is interesting that Noseda perseveres with maiden company suggesting she may be well up to winning this very ordinary maiden.

Chelmsford 19:25 - WINNING STORY 13/8

A facile winner over two-miles at Newcastle and Doncaster in December, the Godolphin gelding should take plenty of beating. Lightly-raced for his age, the four-year-old son of New Approach travelled ominously well last time out and put the race to bed with ease.

He looks on an upward curve and given plenty of time off by trainer Saeed bin Suroor, this lad should make a bold bid to record back-to-back victories.

Alex Ferguson to ride well at Ludlow

Ludlow 16:00 - ROC D'APSIS 7/2

Tom George's six-year-old was beaten last time out and looks to have a strong claim once again. He finished a good second last time out, and the horse that beat him that day, Calett Mad, has since gone on to finish second at Grade Two level. He should relish today's conditions and should be right in the mix.

Ludlow 16:35 - TWO SWALLOWS 6/4

Off the track for a year after suffering an injury but has impressed in three starts for her new yard this year. Ben Pauling's Kayf Tara mare has registered comfortable successes at Doncaster and Towcester sandwiched in between by a creditable second in a decent race at Wetherby in January.

Excellent young rider Alex Ferguson takes 7lb off and she can continue her upward progression.

Ludlow 17:35 - CENTURIUS 13/8

Decent conditional Charlie Deutsch takes the ride on Venetia Williams' gelding who stayed on gamely at Sandown last time out. A one and a quarter-length second on that occasion, she can go one better off a 5lb higher mark in what looks a modest race.

Edmunds and Cowell to combine well

Newcastle 17:25 - JUST US TWO 10/3

Robert Cowell's horses are in decent form and he calls upon one of the flat's up and coming jockeys Lewis Edmunds who is widely regarded as a future champion jockey. This horse won off today's mark of 80 back in May 2015 and with Edmunds taking a handy 5lb off, he looks well rated to cash in here.

The Unit to dominate

Taunton 15:35 - PULL THE CHORD 9/4

Richard Johnson and Phillip Hobbs combine with Pull The Chord, a horse that's been running well without winning. The seven-year-old has been defeated by nine lengths in both of his last two starts but looked to bump into some nice prospects that day.

He's yet to record a victory over fences but he's on a nice mark and can improve with a bit of a step up in trip too.

Taunton 16:10 - THE UNIT 2/1 NAP

Alan King's charge is very smart and racked up a brace of victories at Doncaster and Taunton in 2016, catching the eye with how he travelled and jumped on both occasions.

Second at this track last time off a 9lb higher mark, the winner that day has since scooped a big handicap at Ascot which bodes well for the form. King has saddled five winners in the last 14 days and this son of Gold Well should prove too classy for his rivals.
