Danny Rose candidly admits he misses football after deliberately not watching matches

Danny Rose left Watford in 2022

Danny Rose admitted he misses football during an emotional speech on the back of Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United.

On Sunday, Rose was part of Sky Sports’ panel of pundits as Spurs took on Newcastle at St. James’ Park.

It turned out to be a horrible afternoon for Spurs as they found themselves 5-0 down after 20 minutes.

Both Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak scored twice, with Joelinton also on the score sheet.

In the second half, Harry Kane pulled one back for Spurs before Callum Wilson scored in the 67th minute to seal a huge 6-1 win for the Magpies.

After the match, Rose spoke candidly about taking time away from football after leaving Watford last year.

He said: “Obviously it’s no secret that I’ve been away from football.

“I’ve deliberately not watched football matches, I didn’t watch any of the World Cup.”

Rose went on to admit that he now misses the sport.

He continued: “It was only until the other night when I watched City in the Champions League.

“Watching it and listening to the music is when I started to think ‘Okay, I miss it’.

“I haven’t been in a stadium for a long time, I love football, that feeling after three points, it has reignited some feelings within myself.”

During Spurs’ match against Newcastle, Rose was left baffled by what he saw from the North London side.

He said at half time: “was wrong (about the back four). But there are so many mistakes. And all I’ve been thinking during the first half is how am I unemployed!

“To be 5-0 down after 20 minutes is unheard of for a club that is supposedly a massive club.”
