Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister transfer hopes hinge on Frank Lampard masterclass

It could all come down to the Chelsea boss.

Frank Lampard could hold the key to Liverpool's summer transfer plans as the Premier League season draws to a close.

Liverpool are in the market for midfield recruits, after the club confirmed Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner would all leave Anfield at the end of the campaign.

In the meantime, Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as the Reds' priority target, after a hugely impressive season with Brighton.

The 24-year-old is expected to leave the Amex this summer, with Manchester United also heavily linked to the Argentina international and World Cup winner.

Although Liverpool remain firm favourites, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing that the club have submitted their project and financial proposal to Mac Allister and his representatives.

However, Chelsea interim boss Lampard could prove to be the deciding factor in the midfielder's next move.

Lampard holds 'key' to Liverpool's transfer plans

Mac Allister wants to play in the Champions League if he leaves Brighton this summer, according to The Athletic.

As things stand, Erik ten Hag has the edge over Jurgen Klopp, occupying fourth place in the Premier League table, with a slender one-point advantage over fifth-placed Liverpool.

However, that could all change should Lampard lead Chelsea to victory at Old Trafford later this month.

While the Blues also face third-placed Newcastle before the season is up, with Liverpool still able to catch the Magpies who are four points in front.

Therefore, Liverpool's hopes of landing Mac Allister this summer could rest on Lampard, with Reds supporters relying on the former England international and bitter rival to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Although Brighton may not have given up hope of keeping their prized midfielder just yet, with a Europa League place guaranteed should they win their next two matches against Newcastle and relegation bound Southampton.
