Pedri has urged Barcelona to sign a Premier League superstar after describing him as a "cyborg".

Barcelona have struggled for consistency under Xavi this season and find themselves fourth in La Liga, seven points behind rivals Real Madrid – who are level on points surprise title challengers Girona.

Barcelona could find themselves 10 points off the pace by the time they face Las Palmas on Thursday.

Speaking ahead of the match, Barcelona midfielder Pedri named Manchester City striker Erling Haaland as the one player he would sign for the club if he could.

"Haaland," Pedri, who is currently sidelined with a muscular injury, told Ibai Llanos' Twitch channel.

"The guy is a cyborg. He scores so many goals."

When asked how the Haaland's hypothetical signing would work with current striker Robert Lewandowski, Pedri added: "Unfortunately Robert is not going to play until he is 60 and Haaland is much younger."

Barcelona president Joan Laporta held talks with Haaland's late agent Mino Raiola before the striker opted to join Manchester City instead in 2022.

The Norwegian has since gone on to score 71 goals in 75 games for the Etihad club, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Club World Cup.

Xavi has ruled out Barcelona making a move for Haaland for the foreseeable future, with the Catalan club continuing to struggle financially.

"Haaland or [Kylian] Mbappe? We can’t think of Haaland or Mbappe to join Barca now. We can't afford these players, unfortunately," said Xavi.

"I'm happy with the players I have. We need to reach our best level as at this club we need to be always at top level."

Barcelona's rivals Real Madrid have also been heavily linked with Erling Haaland, in addition to PSG superstar Mbappe.

Speaking last year, Haaland's agent - Rafaela Pimenta - admitted Real Madrid is a "dreamland" for her players.

"There is the Premier League, and there is Real Madrid, and Real Madrid has something of its own that makes it the dreamland for the players," said Pimenta.

"Madrid keeps this magic going. It doesn't have the league competition but it does have the Champions League."
