Wayne Rooney's son has unusual method of proving his dad is famous to his school friends

Wayne Rooney's son has unusual method of proving his dad is famous to his school friends

Friends of Wayne Rooney's son don't believe he was a footballer, despite being Manchester United's record scorer.

Wayne Rooney's son has to go to extreme lengths to prove his dad was a footballer.

Rooney is one of the best players of his generation and currently Manchester United's record goalscorer, with 253 goals in 559 appearances.

He also found the net on 53 occasions for England, who he became captain of in 2014.

Yet despite his incredible career at the highest level, it seems kids these days are not aware of just how he good he was.

In fact, Rooney's wife Coleen has revealed that friends of their youngest, Cass, did not believe his dad was a footballer.

In order to prove who his old man is, he brought in a Match Attax card as the most concrete bit of evidence available.

But Coleen admitted that she finds the children being oblivious "refreshing" given the media attention they have had to deal with.

"Obviously, if you're in the public eye, you do get pecked a lot at parties and in spaces where they will ask you questions, they'll ask your opinion on stuff," she said on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast.

"Kids, they haven't got a clue. Wayne nowadays, he goes to the school and because he's not playing anymore none of the younger kids know who he is.

"He's not important. And my youngest took a Match Attax card in and it was an old one of Wayne and he said 'my friend didn't know my dad used to play football'.

"It's refreshing."

Rooney retired in January 2021 and immediately moved into management with Derby County, before taking charge of MLS side D.C United and then Birmingham City.

However, he was dismissed on Tuesday after winning just twice in 15 games - with Birmingham dropping from fifth to 20th following his arrival.

In a statement, the former Everton player admitted, "it will take me some time to get over this setback".
