The hidden reason why FSG have gone for Arne Slot that could worry Liverpool fans

The hidden reason why FSG have gone for Arne Slot that could worry Liverpool fans

Arne Slot looks likely to be Jurgen Klopp’s replacement as Liverpool manager.

The hidden reason why Fenway Sports Group opted for Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement could worry Liverpool fans.

After months of speculation, it appears that Feyenoord boss Slot will be chosen as Klopp’s replacement.

Speaking ahead of Feyenoord’s 3-1 win over Go Ahead Eagles, the Dutchman said: “The clubs are negotiating, I am awaiting the outcome. It is no secret I want to go to Liverpool. Now I am waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement, I am confident that will happen.”

However, there is something in Liverpool’s pursuit of Slot that could worry their fanbase ahead of the post-Klopp era.

Sky Sports senior reporter Melissa Reddy explained how ‘Premier League financial rules and similarities to Jurgen Klopp led the Reds to make the Feyenoord head coach their leading candidate’.

Slot also has an impressive record of developing players and outperforming the budget and resources available to him.

Under FSG, Liverpool have always been run in a sustainable way and it appears to be important for them to recruit a manager who can continue to maximise resources.

However, this could mean that Liverpool are unlikely to invest heavily in the squad during the summer transfer window due to their budget and FFP rules.

With the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all spending big in recent transfer windows, Liverpool fans could be worried that the team will be left behind by their rivals in the future.

This season, the Reds have lifted the Carabao Cup but failed in the FA Cup and Europa League.

Due their recent decline in form, their hopes of winning the Premier League went up in smoke after losing 2-0 against local rivals Everton at Goodison Park.

As things stand, Liverpool are one point behind City and three behind league leaders Arsenal heading into the latest round of fixtures.

Klopp’s men are back in Premier League action this weekend when they take on West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
