Man City make FA Cup history by beating Newcastle United to secure semi-final place

Man City have broken yet another record.

Manchester City set a new FA Cup record as they beat Newcastle United on Saturday.

City eased to a 2-0 win against Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium, booking their place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Pep Guardiola's side took an early lead when Bernardo Silva's effort took a wicked deflection off the boot of Dan Burn and looped over the head of Martin Dubravka.

Lightning struck twice 15 minutes later when another Silva strike found the back of the net via a deflection, albeit this time Sven Botman was the unfortunate Newcastle defender.

The win kept alive City's hopes of retaining the treble they won last season, as they look to become the first ever team to win back-to-back trebles.

City broke and set plenty of record last season, and their win on Saturday made more history.

City will appear in an FA Cup semi-final for a sixth season in a row, a feat never achieved before.

The last campaign City did not reach the semi-finals of the competition was 2017-18, when Guardiola's centurion side suffered a shock fifth round defeat to Wigan Athletic.

It's an impressive achievement, although City haven't fared particularly well in those semi-finals.

City have lost three of their last five FA Cup semi-finals, including three consecutive losses in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Last season saw them break their last-four curse by beating Sheffield United 3-0, before defeating arch-rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the final.

City have joined Coventry City in the hat for the semi-final draw, after the Championship side pulled off a stunning 3-2 win against Wolves.

Coventry took the lead at Molineux but conceded twice in the final six minutes of normal time.

Just when it looked like the fairytale was over, Mark Robins' side scored twice in injury-time to complete an all-time great comeback win.

City and Coventry will be joined in the final four by the winners of Chelsea vs Leicester and Man United vs Liverpool.
