Liverpool target Ruben Amorim reveals what his son has advised him about replacing Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool target Ruben Amorim has revealed what his son has advised him regarding leaving Sporting at the end of the season.

Liverpool target Ruben Amorim has revealed what his son has advised him regarding leaving Sporting at the end of the season.

Amorim has been among the favourites to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool ever since previous frontrunner Xabi Alonso publicly committed himself to Bayer Leverkusen for another season.

While the 39-year-old Sporting boss flatly denied reports that he had held an interview with the Merseyside club, he has stopped short of committing his future to the Portuguese outfit next season.

In the wake of a 1-0 victory against Famalicao, Amorim was told in a press conference that Sporting fans not only wanted the club to become champions, but also for the manager to remain at the club.

He replied: “Both! Even my son asked me for both things.

“But the important thing is to be champion, that's what the fans want and that's what we fight for.”

It has been widely reported that Amorim is among the leading candidates to become the next Liverpool boss, while Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who are both also set to have a managerial vacancy in the summer, are said to have registered an interest.

But Amorim has repeatedly insisted his focus is on guiding Sporting to the league title, with the club sitting seven points clear of Benfica at the summit.

Speaking last week the Portuguese boss told a press conference: "This is the last time I'm going to talk about my future. There was no interview and certainly no agreement.

"The only thing we all want here is to be champions with Sporting, nothing will change. I'm the Sporting coach and there was no interview or agreement with any club.

"I'm just focused, as always, on representing my club. As I no longer have anything else to say…

"There will be no interviews or agreements with the Sporting coach. The matter is completely resolved, whether related to this club or another."
