No ifs, no buts, he's still the goat.

Lionel Messi may not take the accolade for best player in the European competitions this season, that label should go to Cristiano Ronaldo or Mohamed Salah, but his record in La Liga is still unmatched.

A Sky Sports info-graphic highlighted Messi's dominance in Spain this season. He comes first in scoring, assists, shots, chances created and successful dribbles.

Despite coming up to his 31st birthday, the Barca star is showing no signs of slowing down.. In terms of scoring, in all competitions he has scored a 'modest' 44 goals this season, one more than the much-hyped Mohamed Salah.

Indeed, it's looking like it's not going to be one of those seasons where Messi scores more than the games he's played. But in La Liga, his goal-scoring prowess is still breath-taking: the Argentine star has netted 33 times in just 34 games, a phenomenal feat when you consider that he's also has the record for the league's highest assists this season.

He has helped Barcelona win the league with games to spare and they look set to go through the entire campaign unbeaten, with their encounter against Real Madrid ending 2-2, and only Villareal, Levante and Real Sociedad left on the fixtures list. All three sides having nothing to play for.

When the season is wrapped up, we only have a month to wait until the World Cup. It'll be a joy to see Argentina's all-time leading goal-scorer on display, strutting his stuff and scoring goal after goal in a way Messi only knows how.

However, it's likely to be his last World Cup before his form and talent seriously wither. Croatia, Nigeria and Iceland stand in the South America's way in the group stage, but they are the favourites to sail through. With Messi in form like this, the side are sure to be one of shining stars of the tournament.
