Steven Gerrard would love to see Liverpool win the Premier League title this season but the Reds' legend has admitted that seeing the club lift the title wouldn't stop him thinking about his slip that previously cost them a title.

For everything great that Steven Gerrard did in his career, and there's a pretty good list, the Rangers' manager's playing career will always be defined by the biggest mistake he made, the slip against Chelsea that ended up costing the Anfield side their first Premier League title.

April 27th 2014 will forever be etched on the memories of all Liverpool fans but this season they have the chance to wipe over that memory and replace it with a title win.

The chance is no longer in their hands, as Jurgen Klopp's team now trial champions Manchester City by one point, but this season is their best chance to end their 29 years of not winning the league, certainly since 2014.

Gerrard is now the manager of Rangers and is excited about the prospect of Liverpool winning the league but, speaking to the Times, he revealed he still thinks about the slip, saying:

"This wound has been open since that experience. I'm not sure it will close because I can't change that experience. It doesn't affect how I feel towards what I'm looking in on now...

"I don't drive myself crazy over it. At the same time, it was such a big year. It was the trophy that eluded me. I'm always going to look back and wish it was different."

At the time Liverpool were top of the table after a run of 11 games won in a row, including a win over title rivals Manchester City.

Gerrard, who was captain, had gathered the team at the end of the City game to give them the now unfortunate rallying cry 'we do not let this slip.'

The moment against Chelsea allowed Demba Ba to run in and put Chelsea 1-0 up. An injury time goal secured a 2-0 win for the blues.

Things got worse for Brendan Rodgers' side as they threw away a 3-0 lead against Crystal Palace to draw 3-3 in their next game and the title headed to the Etihad.

Speaking about the pressure to succeed, both for himself five years ago and the current team, Gerrard added, "I'll be honest, it was difficult for me at times. I was local, a supporter who'd been there since I was seven. I'd won a lot of things but wasn't lucky enough to win the Premiership. I think now in the Liverpool dressing room, they can use experiences of what has gone before to help them in the run-in. They have a great leader in Jürgen who, I'm sure, is trying to take a lot of pressure and anxiety away from them."

Gerrard will always be a club legend for everything he did, especially in Istanbul, but a new crop of legends might emerge in May.
