The summer transfer window is set to feature two 'deadline days'.

In 2023, the January deadline day lived up to its billing as clubs at the bottom and top of the Premier League completed several big money moves.

Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez for a then-British record £106.8million, Anthony Gordon sealed a controversial £45million transfer to Newcastle and Joao Cancelo swapped Manchester City for Bayern Munich after falling out with Pep Guardiola.

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest signed three players, Southampton secured two deals, including a club-record signing of Kamaldeen Sulemana for £22million, and Bournemouth brought in a pair of players for a combined £45million.

This season’s transfer windows have been uncharacteristically low-key, however, with the Premier League’s profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) tempering clubs’ business. Instead, teams scoured the market for loans or cut-price deals.

But as the summer transfer window approaches once more fans of frenetic last-minute business will be heartened by the fact that we are set for two transfer deadlines of sorts.

Of course, the primary one will be the regular, traditional end of the transfer window.

However, clubs looking to comply with PSR regulations will also have June 30 in mind, which is the last day of the financial year.

For example, the promoted Leicester City are among a spate of clubs that, based on the Football League’s forecasts, will need to sell players before June 30 to avoid being charged with breaching PSR regulations this term.

According to the Mail Online, Kiernan Desbury-Hall is the most likely to depart amid interest from Brighton, Fulham and Brentford, with the player valued at £30million.

The sales of academy products mean that transfer fees would be immediately added to the balance sheet as pure profit. In turn, the likes of Hamza Choudhury, Sammy Braybrooke and Ben Nelson may also depart the Foxes this summer.
