WWE NXT superstar Danny Burch has praised new NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin for becoming 'absolutely fantastic' in recent years.

Devlin became NXT Cruiserweight Champion at WWE Worlds Collide last month and is one of the companies hottest prospects.

Burch told SPORTbible that the Irishman has improved massively since they squared off at the inaugural United Kingdom Championship Tournament in 2017.

"He's [Devlin] absolutely fantastic," the 38-year-old explained.

"Compared to that first night that I worked with him he's smoothed out all his rough edges and become an absolutely fantastic performer.

"I had the chance to work with him in a tag match for Progress last year and I said to him then 'you have worked so hard to get so much better' and that's one of the best things you can do in this business."

WWE Hall of Famer 'The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels is reportedly a huge fan of Devlin and told the media last year that his ceiling is 'darn high'.

Burch also discussed one of WWE's newest recruits in Timothy Thatcher.

Thatcher signed with the company last week and Burch has wrestled the American in German promotion wXw.

British veteran Burch explained,

"He's going to bring a very unique style and being selfish, I cannot wait to tear it up with him.

"He's fantastic on the mat and has a very intimidating in-ring presence and I think there'll be fireworks for sure."

Burch's biggest claim to fame in WWE is his tag team with fellow NXT grappler Oney Lorcan.

Their crowning moment came when they faced The Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Takeover: Chicago 2 in 2018.

Burch and Lorcan came up short in the match but they won the hearts of the 'Windy City' that night as well as peers backstage.

"That night will always be something I never forget," Burch explained on a conference call.

"I'd filled out all my paperwork and restarted with with company on Monday and that Wednesday was when the storyline started for me and Oney to take on The Undisputed Era."

Chicago is a notoriously passionate city and cheered for Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong over Burch and Lorcan.

But 'The Brit-Am Brawlers' turned the crowd on their side in the thrilling contest.

"To feel the crowd switch halfway through that match and them have them stand to give us a round of applause was a very special moment and is the highlight of my career.

"I still haven't watched the match back as I'm my own worst critic so I like to leave them in memory as is but it was an amazing night."

He also went on to explain that the evening was 15 years in the making and a way to 'show the world what he can do' and that he thanked Triple H 'about 50 times'.

"Truth be told, I must have sat in the corner and cried for about 20 minutes because I was elated with what we'd done and so relieved that it came off so well."

Burch is currently in his second spell with the company after being released in 2012.

He re-signed in 2015 and believes his original departure helped him become the star he is today.

"It gave me a chance to look within myself to see if this is really what I wanted to do.

"I'd never questioned it before but getting released the first time I did question whether this is for me or not or if I'm good enough for this.

"Here we are five years later and I've had so much more success, I had the chance to step away and grasp what I had been taught before and to get as much exposure as I could.

"So yeah I do think it ended up being a positive."
