But it proved to be a ruse and Mysterio low blowed Lesnar from behind and Dominick followed suit.
The duo then performed a double 619 and then a frog splash each to the former UFC champion.
Despite Rey's battling performance in Chicago it was his son that stole the show.
Fans on Twitter reacted to Dominick's impressive athleticism.

Rey Mysterio defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE title, after hitting double Eddie Guerrero Frog Splahses WITH Dominick, in the same building he won the World title in 2006 would have been the biggest pop of the year.

Brock Lesnar vs Rey Mysterio was excellent, not as better than Lesnar vs Bryan last year, but it was nice to see a perfect moment with Rey's son Dominick doing Rey's moves on Brock Lesnar.#SurvivorSeries #WWEChampionship

The effort was for naught however as Lesnar went on to retain his WWE Title.
The use of the frog splash is likely in tribute to legendary wrestler and one of Rey's best friends Eddie Guerrero.
Many will remember Dominick as the youngster who was heavily involved in the legendary feud his father had with Guerrero.
The duo's long feud culminated in a ladder match at Summerslam 2005 with custody of Dominick hanging above the ring.
Mysterio would go on to win the match and keep custody of his son.
Dominick made his debut on WWE television earlier year in a backstage segment with Samoa Joe.
Since then he's been involved in multiple storylines and accompanies his father to the ring.
He has expressed a desire to get into professional wrestling and has appeared with his dad throughout the year.
Judging by his interaction with Lesnar last night, you have to think a full in-ring debut can't be too far away.
