WWE NXT champion Finn Balor would "relish" a dream showdown with WWE Hall of Famer Edge.

The Rated-R superstar won his second Royal Rumble in St. Petersburg, Florida last month and now has a ticket to the main event of Wrestlemania.

However, Edge, real name Adam Copeland, is keeping all options open for his fairytale title match - having appeared on all three of WWE's brands in recent times and had verbal encounters with the trio of champions.

His appearance on NXT on Wednesday saw him confront two-time champion Balor and inform both he and next challenger Pete Dunne that he will be watching their bout at NXT Takeover: Vengeance Day very closely.

Balor is more than keen to mix it up with an all-time great, but isn't looking too far ahead just yet.

He told SPORTbible: "I'd relish a match with Edge anytime, whether it's in the parking lot, whether it's on Raw, whether it's on Smackdown or whether it's on NXT. It doesn't bother me.

"Obviously that match I hope will happen, whether it happens at Wrestlemania or at a Takeover, but right now very much the focus is on Pete Dunne.

"I can't overlook that challenge for a second. Pete's got a lot to prove and he's been in a rich vein of form recently.

"He is someone who has the potential to not only be a future NXT champion but world champion and universal champion - he can do it all."

Dunne, who held the NXT UK championship for 685 days, has been destined for big things ever since he made a big impact on his WWE debut at Blackpool's Empress Ballroom in 2017.

Balor was in attendance to see the Bruiserweight start an incredible chapter in his career. On Sunday, they do battle inside the squared circle.

"Pete Dunne is one of the absolute best in the world," the 39-year-old added.

"27 years old, incredible amount of experience, huge amount of potential and absolutely proven in the ring in Europe, United States and Japan.

"[He] has all the tools to be an absolute top performer. I rate Pete higher than most people in this business.

"I knew about Pete a long time ago when I was in England wrestling in the UK, we had mild interactions in Japan when he had spent a little time in Zero One.

"I've heard Pete's name for many years but on Sunday this will be the first time we've been in the ring together and it's going to be a very full circle moment in the sense that it's been building a long, long time.

"It's very strange that it's happened in NXT considering the amount of places it could have potentially happened in, in the past.

"It's something I'm really looking forward to."

NXT Takeover: Vengeance Day is live on the WWE Network on Sunday 14 February at 12am.
