WWE legend The Rock has sent fans into overdrive after hinting he could return to the promotion for a dream match with Roman Reigns.

The Rock, real name Dwayne Johnson, has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood since stepping away from the ring full-time in 2004.

He announced last summer that he was officially retiring from pro wrestling, with his last match coming at WrestleMania 32 in 2016.

However, current WWE star Reigns has discussed facing off against 'The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment' and The Rock has responded to the speculation.

"I think anything is possible," the 47-year-old explained in a recent Q&A.

"Sure, of course, I'm always open. That's the cool thing about professional wrestling, there is an adaptability to wrestling.

"You never say never in the world of pro wrestling."

He went on to explain that he would be open to facing 'cousin' Reigns as long as the everything lined up perfectly.

"You never say never to Vince McMahon [WWE Chairman], who has been one of my mentors in the business for a very long time. Very, very close friend and confidant. You never say no.

"For something like that to happen, I think the venue would have to be right. The business model would have to be right.

"But I'm very close with Roman, he's family to me, so we will see."

The Rock and Reigns are not blood relatives but refer to one another as cousins due to their place in the Anoa'i family.

'The Great One' was one of WWE's biggest stars during the height of the promotion's popularity, the Attitude Era.

He and Stone Cold Steve Austin became the faces of the WWE as they triumphed over WCW in the 'Monday Night Wars'.

Reigns, meanwhile, is one of WWE's top stars today and has main evented four separate WrestleMania events.

The SmackDown star has also expressed his interest in working with 'The Brahma Bull'.

"If it's done right, I think, obviously the star that he is, where he's at in his career, it would be huge," Reigns explained to GQ Sports per Bleacher Report.

"It would be great. But you know, we're family, so it has to make sense. And free the guy up; can we get him a break? Can he take a day off? If he can get a week off, then we might be able to make it happen."
