WWE legend Rey Mysterio's contract has reportedly expired and his future with the promotion is up in the air - although he will remain on TV for the foreseeable future.

Mysterio rejoined WWE in September 2018 after a three year stint away from the company and has been a regular feature on Monday Night Raw.

However, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio has revealed the former WWE Champion is currently working without an official contract following unsuccessful negotiations.

It's unknown if the 'Master of the 619' will sign a new deal in the coming weeks.

Mysterio was slated to appear on the June 29 edition of Raw to confront current rival Seth Rollins with his son Dominik, but the appearance was from home instead.

Meltzer also speculated that Dominik's involvement in the storyline is a key reason for Mysterio currently staying on TV.

Dominik has been involved with his father on TV since 2019 and Rey hopes to see him compete in WWE sometime this year.

The 45-year-old was also in line to face Rollins at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on July 19 but the match is yet to be announced.

Mysterio began performing at a young age and made his wrestling debut in Mexico back in 1989.

He is regarded as one of the greatest luchadors of all-time and his iconic mask is known by sports fans across the world.

A first stint in WWE between 2002 and 2015 saw him win the World Heavyweight Championship twice and the WWE Championship once, while also winning the 2006 Royal Rumble after entering at number one.

He left WWE following WrestleMania 31 and wrestled around the world for a variety of different promotions.

Fans clamoured for a return and the reaction his shock appearance at the 2018 Royal Rumble saw the Wells Fargo Center come unglued.

Later that year, he returned to the company full-time and has gone on to win the United States Championship twice.

He also faced off with Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series 2019, a match which saw him and his son hit 'The Beast Incarnate' with a double 619.
