A Man Tried To Tango With The Rock On Twitter And It Did Not End Well

A Man Tried To Tango With The Rock On Twitter And It Did Not End Well

This Australian writer thought he could take on Dwayne Johnson, but after this incident he'll probably prefer to keep his mouth shut

Short of self-confessed geeks, it's hard to think of a genre of human being more skin-crawlingly annoying than people who describe themselves as 'zany'.

Just the word alone conjures up images of that imbecile who nobody in your friendship group actually likes, chiming in with their unfunny jokes and comments, complete with that droopy smile that says, 'HUR HUR HUR. Aren't I hilarious?'

It's embarrassing. And, with that in mind, let me introduce Ben Pobjie, an Australian writer who has a blue tick on Twitter and some absolutely dire banter.

Now I know what you're probably thinking: 'Who in the blue hell is he?' And that's a very fair response. So you can assume Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson found himself in the same position after the Aussie popped up in his Twitter mentions.

It came after the People's Champion had taken to the social media site to congratulate Kurt Angle on his return to the WWE last night.

He wrote: "Congrats to my good bud Kurt Angle and his return tonight to a WWE ring. Special athlete and great human being. Have FUN brotha."

Great that, isn't it? A friend showing some love. Congratulating him on his comeback. Nice to see two of the Attitude Era's greatest stars coming together to-

Oh wait, here's Ben Pobjie with an interruption.

He messaged the former WWE favourite: "Dwayne, wrestling isn't real. It's time you knew."

You'll recognise what he's saying of course, it's the most basic criticism of wrestling, the assumption that all wrestling fans are so dumb and thick that they don't know the match results are predetermined. That they're taking it at face value rather than appreciating it for its unique mix of athletics, theatre and camp. A point that could only be made by someone who misses the entire point of wrestling.

But there we were. And with The Rock being The Rock, he wasn't going to just take that shit.

He said: "I like the dry wit. Correct, I do in fact know wrestling isn't real. That's why I said 'have fun'. I also know, you can go fuck yourself."

And Ben responded the way you can imagine anyone might - well, anyone who dared to insult The Rock in front of his millions and millions of fans.

To be fair to The Rock, he was a gent about it.

But as far as I'm concerned, Ben Pobjie: you should know your role and shut your mouth.
