Rhea Ripley has admitted that she is desperate for a singles match with Kay Lee Ray and would "love" to become a unified NXT women's champion.

The 23-year-old NXT women's champ, real name Demi Bennett, is the only woman to have held the top championship prize on both brands of NXT.

When SPORTbible asked Ripley if 2020 could mark the year where we see the first NXT women's double champ, she responded: "Oh, man, I hope so. I would love to do that.

"I really wanna hold the UK and the US championships at the same time. That would be absolutely incredible!"

Ripley became the inaugural NXT UK women's champion after she defeated Toni Storm in 2018.

And the NXT star, who has continued to have an intense rivalry with Storm, has revealed that she wants to face Kay Lee Ray in a singles match.

Ripley has crossed paths with the NXT UK women's champion last year and even competed against her in tag team action.

When SPORTbible asked Ripley if she wanted to face Storm or Kay Lee Ray in a champion vs champion match, she responded: "[Laughs] I'm hoping that it's Kay Lee Ray just because I've wrestled Toni so many times now and I just wanna wrestle Kay Lee so bad -- so bad -- but it just never seems to happen."

The WWE superstar became an integral part of the NXT UK women's division since its inception, but she has since climbed to the top of the US brand.

Ripley suggested that she would love to make a surprise appearance on NXT UK down the line, but she admitted that it was the right time to move on.

"Man, I would love to go back, but at the same time you've got to move on," she said.

"I was there for a long time and I faced pretty much everyone on the roster -- except Kay Lee [laughs]!

"But yeah, I pretty much faced everyone and I sort of handed it down to Piper Niven after our tag match against Jinny and Jazzy [Gabert].

"So, I would love to go back, even if it is just for an appearance and, like, just a shock sort of thing because it was so much fun going down there.

"But at the same time I'm like, 'If I don't have to go on an aeroplane, I'm happy [laughs].'"

Ripley capped off an impressive 2019 by dethroning Shayna Baszler from the top of NXT and entering into her first title reign as women's champion.

And the 'Nightmare' believes it could be time for the women's division to receive its equivalent of the NXT North American Championship.

"I think so just 'cause there is so many women in WWE these days and we're all working hard to achieve greatness. We're all making history," she explained.

"We do have the Tag Team Titles that are supposed to be on all three brands but, unfortunately, they don't really make it down to NXT too much [laughs], which is a shame because there's so many eager women that have been tagging for a while down there and they don't really get that recognition.

"So, hopefully, one day there will be more than just the NXT Championship, the Raw Championship and the SmackDown Championship and the Tag Titles. Hopefully, we get some more stuff. We'll see!"
