WWE star Jordan Devlin has revealed that he would love for UFC superstar Conor McGregor to be his tag team partner at NXT UK TakeOver: Dublin.

The UK brand of NXT will be heading outside of the UK for the first time next month and it will mark a special homecoming for the 29-year-old cruiserweight champ.

SPORTbible caught up with Devlin for an exclusive interview on Friday and asked if there was an invitation for Irish star McGregor to join him at TakeOver: Dublin.

The 'Irish Ace' responded: "Absolutely, mate. Negotiations are ongoing. I'm just trying to set up the two lads that we'll have to face, but he's well up for it."

Devlin captured the NXT Cruiserweight Championship at Worlds Collide in January when he emerged victorious from the fatal 4-way match.

But the 'Irish Ace' doesn't believe that he would put the title on the line against McGregor in a singles match due to them being "really close."

The NXT UK star explained: "Err, nah. See, we're really close. I don't think we'd wanna throw hands with each other, you know what I mean?"

McGregor, 31, made his sensational MMA return in January with a stunning first-round victory over UFC veteran Donald Cerrone.

Devlin admitted that he missed McGregor's stunning performance live as he was on "one of my transatlantic flights."

The 'Irish Ace' said: "I didn't [watch it live]. I was in the air, would you believe? I think I was doing one of my transatlantic flights.

"I don't know whether I was going or coming, but I missed it. But I got the results when I landed."

However, Devlin said that he wasn't surprised with the result and "expected [McGregor] to eat [Cerrone] up."

McGregor has been heavily linked with WWE in the past and the wrestling promotion has several wrestlers with MMA backgrounds, including Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey.

When SPORTbible caught up with Devlin ahead of TakeOver: Blackpool II in January, the Irish star said that McGregor would be "very welcomed should he decide to come [to WWE]."

And the 'Irish Ace' booked their TakeOver: Dublin match to be the new guard versus the old guard, which would see him cross paths with former trainer Finn Balor.

Devlin said: "Oh, yeah. For sure [I'd love for him to come]! Absolutely, that would be so sick! Maybe TakeOver: Dublin it could be Jordan Devlin and Conor McGregor together.

"If we sign Conor McGregor, it's the new era of Irish pro wrestling. It's Jordan Devlin and Conor McGregor vs Sheamus and Finn Balor -- the old guard."

Devlin also ruled out there would be a clash of egos if the 'Irish Ace' and the 'Notorious' teamed up together.

But if their tag team didn't work out, the cruiserweight champ feels that it would open the door for a potential super-fight.

"I think it just opens the door for all sorts of stuff down the road," he said.

"We'll see how we get on. If we don't, it'll set up a super-fight. But if we do, all well and good."
