Rey Mysterio Wins The WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship With Son Dominick

Rey and Dominick Mysterio became the first father and son team to become tag team champions in WWE, when they defeated Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode on Sunday night.

WWE legend Rey and his son Dominick were the challengers for the SmackDown version of the titles at WrestleMania Backlash and came out on top.

It was an emotional moment for the pair, with dad Rey winning a version of the tag titles with his fifth different partner, and Dominick winning his first title as a WWE superstar.

It was a real family affair for the new title holders, and the only new champions following the Backlash show, with four other champions defending their titles, as Rey's wife Angie and daughter Aalyah joined them live on a watchalong on the WWE Network to celebrate post match.

The younger Mysterio, a third generation superstar having followed his father and grandfather Rey Mysterio Sr. into the ring, first appeared in WWE as long back as 2005, as part of his dad's feud with Eddie Guerrero, one of the other men Rey has held the tag team titles with.

Dominick returned in 2019 as part of his father's feud with Brock Lesnar and made his official in ring debut in a match with Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2020.

The father and son duo have been regularly appearing as a tag team since October last year and Dominick won the 'Rookie of the Year' award in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's annual awards.

The new tag team champs weren't the only big name father and son duo at the Yuengling Center in Tampa Bay Florida, as Tyson Fury was backstage at the show with his son, and got a picture with Rey.
