'Mrs Monday Night RAW' Talks RAW 25 And Women's Rumble

Stephanie McMahon explains why announcing the Women's Royal Rumble is her favourite moment of 25 years of RAW.

In 25 years she's gone from Mr McMahon's baby girl to the all conquering boss of the authority but Stephanie McMahon's greatest RAW moment came just a few weeks ago.

There aren't too many people who have had their whole adult lives been broadcast live on television but in 25 years of WWE RAW that's exactly what's happened to Stephanie McMahon.

In her own words we've seen 'life imitate art' as her on screen husband, Triple H, soon became her actual husband and her and Paul Levesque have three daughters together.

On Monday night, or the early hours of Tuesday morning for those of us in the UK, WWE celebrate RAW's silver anniversary at RAW 25 and McMahon thinks the biggest change in the company is the athleticism of the performers:

"The biggest change has been the evolution of storytelling, the ability to tell those stories across multiple platforms and the increased level of athleticism in our performers.

"The athleticism has evolved over the last 25 years. It is incredible to watch these performers in the ring, the things they can do; the stunts, the aerial manoeuvres."

But the history that WWE will make on Sunday at the Royal Rumble, live on the WWE Network, suggests it is the 'women's revolution' that is the biggest change in both WWE and wrestling in general since RAW kicked off.

Just a few weeks ago McMahon was in the ring at the end of an episode of Monday Night RAW to announce the first ever Women's Rumble. Despite everything else she's done in her career she explained it was her favourite moment:

"My most favourite moment is having the opportunity to announce the first ever women's Royal Rumble match, and the reason why is because I had the chance to acknowledge the women in the ring, on Raw, on Smackdown, on NXT and any woman who's stepped inside a wrestling ring regardless of their promotion. They are all a part of this moment in time, they're all a part of making it happen."

But even that moment was bittersweet with it getting a negative reaction because all the women 'broke character' and hugged. But McMahon explained that was all part of the plan because it was a real reaction:

" The women in the ring didn't know what I was going to say. We were chastised by some fans because we broke character. I told the women earlier in the day, they knew I was coming out but they didn't know what I was going to say, so I told them 'react naturally' don't feel like you have to be in character, it's okay to react how you want to react, to what I'm going to say.

"We all broke character, we had a very real moment with each other and our audience. When that 'yes' chant broke out I had goosebumps from head to toe, because this is happening and we are all a part of making it happen. They've made this happen and they've absolutely earned everything. "

The women's division does have one shadow hanging over it in the shape of UFC star Ronda Rousey.

Rousey has been known to be training with WWE at the Performance Centre in Orlando and McMahon refused to rule out the former UFC bantamweight world champion appearing or a match with herself:

"Well I think first and foremost we would have to officially make Ronda Rousey a part of the WWE roster so we'll have to wait and see if that's going to happen."

In 25 years McMahon has gone from a backstage extra, to being kidnapped by the Undertaker, drugged and forced to marry Triple H, be Women's champion, become the GM of Smackdown and then RAW and everything in between.

She personifies RAW completely as it has changed and 25 years on there's no doubt she's earned the title of Mrs Monday Night RAW!
