One MMA Promotion Once Ran A Rugby And MMA Tournament

The British promotion ran the new sport in 2012 but the videos have just started going viral.

MMA is already a mix of some of the world's toughest sports, and that's tough in a 'you could get the sh*t beaten out of you' sort of way, so throwing rugby into the mix just sounds like a ridiculous decision.

There's no doubt that those people who step into a ring or an octagon or any other sort of shape to fight another person have to be tough, there's a good chance you're going to take some punishment after all.

Watch our interview with Conor McGregor:

Equally if you step on a rugby field then there's every chance that you're going to be on the end some big hits and, unlike American football, there's no padding or helmets to help you with the impact.

Quite frankly MMA and rugby are two of the worlds more mad sports if you looked at them from outside the context of them as sports. The idea to mix the two would surely have come across no one's mind.

Well that's not totally true. Back in 2012 British MMA promotion UCMMA decided to invent 'Ultimate Ball' by throwing a rugby ball into the octagon and have teams of MMA fighters go 4-on-4. The rules stated you could only attack the player with the ball, right?

The show might be from six years ago but it's just started going viral, although there's apparently not been any ultimate ball since, which is probably best for everyone's health and wellbeing.

It just reminds us of this to be totally honest:

And sure if they've had the idea to add rugby to MMA then there's no reason why they couldn't add a bowling ball and some flames. Actually this is all starting to sound a lot more like Japanese wrestling with explosions and shark tanks and the like, I'm starting to really get on board.

There's not many more ways of guaranteeing you'll get hurt than adding rugby with MMA and yet we wouldn't mind seeing more of this utter craziness, or seeing what other hybrid sports there could be- anyone for monkey tennis?
