On a night that was supposed to be all about Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov some headlines were held back for Derrick Lewis as the heavyweight finished his fight at UFC 229 in style.
There's a reason why heavyweight fighting, be it boxing or MMA, is the most exciting and that's because the fighters all pack a punch that can end the fight in their favour no matter what has come before.
UFC 229 has been built almost exclusively around Conor McGregor's lightweight title fight against the undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, the most hotly anticipated fight in UFC history according to Joe Rogan.
However in one of the fights leading up to the McGregor's UFC return Derrick Lewis laid down a marker for the Irishman to have the most entertaining finish.

Heavyweight 2nd rank Lewis took on 5th ranked Alexander Volkov but it was the Russian who did most of the early damage and clearly hurt Lewis around the eye early in the first round.
Three rounds of Volkov using his height and reach advantage followed as Lewis looked for the knockout. Then, late in the third, the 'Black Beast' felled his opponent with a huge right before ending him with two massive ground punches:
After the fight Lewis continued to show that he was in fine form, despite the huge shots that seemed to really hurt him under the eye, and told Rogan in the ring that Donald Trump had rung him earlier in the day and told him to "knock this Russian motha fucka out."

The 33 year old had taken his pants off and Rogan asked why before he bluntly answered 'because my balls were hot.'
After spending most of three rounds having his arse handed to him then coming back with a massive KO and finally giving some ridiculously epic post fight answers in his interview it's fair to say that we're all big Derrick Lewis fans now.
