Dana White has claimed that Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal could be the biggest fight in UFC, if Gamebred wins the welterweight title at UFC 251.
Masvidal is the name on everyone's lips right now after stepping up with six days' notice to take on Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title at Fight Island.
On Friday night White was talking in the pre event press conference and revealed that Usman vs Masvidal was trending more than any McGregor fight apart from the one against Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
Later the UFC president was asked if, should Masvidal win, he thought McGregor coming out of retirement to face the BMF title holder would be the biggest fight in the company.
White replied saying, "Yeah, it could be" before saying that he doesn't know if he'd be interested in putting it on yet because he was just concentrating on putting on the Fight Island shows.
There's no surprise that Masvidal's fight this weekend has grabbed a lot of attention. The 35-year-old was considered as the fighter of the year by many in 2019, for his wins against Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz, and entered into a war of words with Usman.
Welterweight champion Usman was meant to fight Gilbert Burns on Saturday, after Gamebred's negotiations with the promotion went badly, but the Brazilian failed a Covid-19 test last week.
That led to a new opponent needing to be found at six days' notice and Masvidal stepping up at the last minute to fill the spot and fight for the title for the first time in seven years with UFC.
McGregor retired, for the umpteenth time, earlier this year, just months after claiming he was hoping to have three fights in 2020.
White has spoken openly about expecting the Irishman would return to action if the right fight was around for him. Having fought at welterweight in January, in his win over Donald Cerrone, there'd be almost no doubt that a fight for Masvidal's title would be interesting to the Notorious.
Not many people draw as much interest in the sport as McGregor and Masvidal, putting both together would see sparks fly.
