Tony Ferguson Responds To Khabib Nurmagomedov's Post Loss Praise

The lightweight champion took to social media to show respect to Ferguson after his loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 last week.

Tony Ferguson has responded to the kind words sent by Khabib Nurmagomedov in the wake of El Cucuy's loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249.

Last week Ferguson was out fought and out classed by Gaethje as his 12 fight undefeated streak was ended, as were his chances of finally facing Khabib in the near future.

Whilst Ferguson has had his issues with the UFC lightweight champion in the past, 'the Eagle' was quick to show respect to the American after his loss last week.

Now the former interim champion has responded with his own respectful message.

Gaethje's win now means that he is the interim champion and will likely face the Russian at some point in the near future, which could potentially be on 'Fight Island' in the summer.

Unfortunately that also means that Ferguson and Khabib may never meet in the octagon, or at least not for a while, after five failed attempts to get the fight on over the years.

The pair were initially meant to meet at UFC 249 before the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the card and grounded the Eagle in Russia.

Whilst things are respectful in some parts of the lightweight division it's very much a different story when it comes to former champ Conor McGregor and the rest of his rivals.

The Irishman took to social media in the aftermath of last week's first UFC card behind closed doors and took shots at Ferguson, Khabib, Gaethje and Dustin Poirier.

'The Highlight' replied claiming that McGregor was 'losing clout' and was 'on his knees,' something the former two weight champ clearly didn't agree with.

McGregor has already claimed the Gaethje vs Khabib title unification won't happen but it's more likely he could face Ferguson or Poirier next.

El Cucuy also responded to the Notorious on social media saying, "@TheNotoriousMMA You're Still My Bitch. You Never Represented Me According To Audie,.. If So Then You Worked For Me, & Withheld Money From Me. Focus On Putting The Bottle Down Kid. @BallengeeGroup Is Gold Standard, Must Be Hard Watching From The Sidelines. Keep It Up Chump -Champ."
