Dustin Poirier Brilliantly Explains What He'd Have Done Differently Against Khabib Nurmagomedov

The UFC lightweight champion defeated Poirier in his most recent title defence back in September 2019 and will next face Justin Gaethje.

Dustin Poirier will be aiming for a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, because the former UFC lightweight challenger clearly has an excellent idea of what he wouldn't do from the first fight.

Khabib hasn't fought since his fight against Poirier 11 months ago, when the Russian took his MMA record to 28-0 with a submission from a rear naked chokehold in the 3rd round.

If The Diamond does manage to get a rematch against Khabib then he's already got a plan. Asked on Twitter what he would have done differently against the Eagle, Poirier had the perfect response.

As far as strategy is concerned you can't argue that it's a pretty solid plan, but whether or not he gets to put it into practice is extremely questionable.

The lightweight champion's next test will be against interim champion Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 on October 24th, but it could be his penultimate fight.

There's been lots of talk that Khabib is hoping to get to 30-0 and then will retire, meaning only one fight after Gaethje.

UFC legend Georges St-Pierre could be last for Khabib but the Russian could also face Conor McGregor again, however that's only if the Irishman beat Poirier.

Speaking at a press conference in Russia, the 31-year-old said, "Aside from sports, there are also human relations. I'm OK with [Conor]. It's behind us.

"...After Gaethje, I would be ready to face any opponent who gets a win over Poirier. Tony or McGregor, it makes no difference."

Khabib didn't say what would happen in Poirier beat McGregor, or Tony Ferguson, but the Louisiana native did seem up for taking on McGregor again, having lost to the Notorious in 2014.

McGregor, of course, is currently retired once again from MMA and UFC president Dana White has confirmed that the Irishman won't be back in action before the end of the year, after he started 2020 claiming saying he'd have three fights this year.

Ferguson was the man who Gaethje beat to earn the interim title. The former interim champ was meant to face Khabib but Covid-19 put an end to that fight.

It was the fifth time one or other of the two men had to pull out of a fight between them that had already been scheduled.

Do you think Khabib and McGregor will fight again and will the result be any different? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
