Nate Diaz Quickly Deletes Response To News About Conor McGregor's Return

The former two weight UFC champion is currently retired but UFC president Dana White gave an update about his return to action.

Dana White doesn't think that Conor McGregor will make his return until next year and Nate Diaz told the Irishman to "sit his ass down."

McGregor retired a couple of months ago, for the third time in his career, but no one is expecting it to stick, with plenty of talk about who he could face next.

UFC president White said on Monday that he doesn't believe the Notorious will be back this year and, in typical fashion, McGregor's two time former opponent, Diaz, reacted on Twitter before deleting the post.

Confirming the 32-year-old Dubliner's status, White said, "This year, he is retired. He doesn't have a fight this year, and he won't have a fight this year. Conor McGregor will not fight in 2020. ... I guarantee he will not fight in 2020."

The UFC have confirmed the main events for their next three big show up until October, with Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier, Israel Adesanya vs Paolo Costa and Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje set to headline.

McGregor's return, as was the case in January when he came back from over a year off, would almost certainly headline so there isn't much room for his return this year anyway.

When McGregor does return though, a third fight with Diaz would likely be high on the list of potential fights, after their two previous showdowns were instant classics.

The Stockton Slugger handed the Notorious his first loss in UFC in March 2016, when the American was a late replacement for Rafael dos Anjos, before their rematch led to a reverse just five months later.

If McGregor's next opponent isn't Diaz then he still has plenty of options. White recently claimed that a fight between the Irishman and Jorge Masvidal would be the biggest he could make right now, and Masvidal also has unfinished business with Diaz.

Should the former two weight champ return to lightweight then a rematch with Khabib Nurmgomedov isn't out of the question. The Russian faces Gaethje next but may only have one more fight left in his career after that.

Long time rival McGregor would be an option, but the champ could instead face UFC legend Georges St-Pierre.
