Cat Zingano Once Totally Destroyed And 'Broke' Amanda Nunes In UFC

Cat Zingano Once Totally Destroyed And 'Broke' Amanda Nunes In UFC

Amanda Nunes has been described as the G.O.A.T of women's UFC but she has been beaten, and beaten badly, by Cat Zingano in recent memory.

Right now she's the best women's mma star in the world and looks nearly unbeatable, with the featherweight title also to her name.

However Zingano, who beat her at UFC 178 in 2014, is quick to remind anyone that she 'broke' Nunes and she wasn't even at her best.

Nunes dominated their fight early but Zingano turned things around in the second round and in the third she forced the referee to stop the fight when the American rained down a series of unanswered elbows and punches as she opened up the eye of her Brazilian opponent.

Since that fight the 31-year-old dual weight champion has easily won her next 10 fights beating some of the best of all time on the way.

She won the bantamweight title from Meisha Tate in 2016 at UFC 200 before beating Ronda Rousey in just 48 seconds in her first defence.

After that came a second win against Valentina Shevchenko, winning the featherweight title off Cris Cyborg in December 2018 and then stopped Holly Holm earlier this year.

When Amanda Nunes Was Shown Not To Be The GOAT

Asked recently by MMAJunkie who she thought the greatest woman of all time in the UFC was Miesha Tate had no problem answering, "For me, it's been Amanda Nunes," said former champ Tait, "She's just on another level. She's super legitimate. She hits like a ton of bricks.

"And it's just incredible what she's been able to do with the bantamweight division and what she's done dipping her toes in the featherweight division. Really, the way she took out Cyborg was so mind-blowing. It was very impressive.

"I think for me that would be an easy pick."

Nunes was expected to have a rematch with Cyborg before her fellow Brazilian was surprisingly released by UFC last September, and subsequently signed with Bellator.

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani show Nunes said she had nothing to prove in a rematch anyway explaining, "Honestly I proved my point in that fight. I know, me and my coach, everybody around me, we all knew I was gonna beat her that night.

"I was so ready for that fight. It happened, I proved my point, but I feel all these things are asking for a rematch. I think that would have been huge for women's MMA.

"The rematch would have had more eyes on it. It would have been good for both of us, not only me."
