Jon Jones has responded to the suggestion that Brock Lesnar wants to come out of retirement to face him by calling the former UFC heavyweight champion 'slow.'

Lesnar last appeared in UFC in July 2016 at UFC 200 and decided to retire earlier this year rather than return to face then heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier.

On Monday night Kurt Angle was a guest on the Ariel Helwani show and the WWE star revealed that Jones was the only fight the 'Beast Incarnate' would return for, saying, "I hope he does return. I know he said he was retired, but I think the one fight he wants, and I don't know if it will happen, but he wants to go up against Jon Jones."

Now the promotions light heavyweight champion Jones, considered by many as the greatest fighter of all time, has taken to Twitter to call out his would be rival.

Lesnar failed a drugs test following his fight at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt, with the result changing to a no contest after that test, and was given a year ban by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

There were reports in 2017 that the 42-year-old had retired for a second time from the sport but last year he stormed the octagon at UFC 226, after Cormier had beaten Stipe Miocic, and challenged the new champion.

USADA then confirmed the WWE superstar had decided to rejoin the testing pool ahead of his return to action but he later decided against the fight, with Miocic then getting his rematch.

Jones has had his own issues with both failing drugs tests and a rivalry with Cormier but is on a three fight winning streak, since his last return from a drugs ban, and is the current light heavyweight champ.

There had been talk of 'Bones' moving up to heavyweight to fight his long term rival but Cormier's loss to Miocic has led to talk of DC retiring.

A fight between the 32-year-old and Lesnar would have huge mainstream appeal and the sort of fight WWE would allow their superstar to compete in.

Jones was unconvincing in his latest fight against Thiago Silva and only won a split decision, with the Brazilian seriously hurt during the fight and operating on just one leg.

Will the two stars get the chance to face each other?
