Dana White has put a huge question mark on the future of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson, saying he's not confident it'll happen in 2020.

Khabib and Ferguson were supposed to meet at UFC 249, which was originally scheduled for April 18th, but the current global situation led to the delay of the event and the change in opponent for Ferguson, with the Russian grounded in his home country.

It's the fifth time the pair have been scheduled to meet only for one or the other to pull out, for numerous different reasons, and many will think they're destined to never meet.

In a Reddit 'Ask Me Anything' on Thursday, the UFC president was asked how confident he was of the fight happening sometime this year and White answered, "Not very. I'm afraid of what will happen next if we try to make that happen again."

The pair would have been main eventing the UFC 249 card with the Eagle's lightweight title on the line but instead Ferguson will meet Justin Gaethje for the interim title.

That should suggest the winner going on to face Khabib in the near future but clearly White's previous deadlings trying to put the fight together has left him very skeptical, should El Cucuy win in just over a week.

Asked which fight was the 'one that got away,' White said it was Khabib vs Ferguson.

Whilst that fight might never happen White did hint that Conor McGregor would get to face the lightweight champion again.

Asked during the Reddit thread what rematch he'd like to see White said, "I know everybody is gonna go "isn't he awesome" but it's true. I would have to say Conor Khabib... Conor wants that rematch so bad and I would love to see it."

UFC 249 is set to take place behind closed doors in Jacksonville, Florida and the card is one of the most stacked in recent memory.

As well as the interim lightweight title match, Henry Cejudo will defend his bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz, Francis Ngannou and Jairzinho Rozenstruik fight in a heavyweight brawl and Donald Cerrone faces Anthony Pettis.
