Fans Claim The EA Sports Curse Is To Blame For Jorge Masvidal's Loss

Jorge Masvidal's loss to Kamaru Usman came just hours after Gamebred was officially named on the cover of the latest UFC game.

Jorge Masvidal's loss to Kamaru Usman was a blow to Gamebred, as well as many UFC fans, but the biggest blow might be for EA Sports, whose curse struck once again.

Masvidal had just six days preparation for his welterweight title fight at UFC 251 on Fight Island against Usman and was dominated throughout.

However as well as a night of three title matches it was also the night that EA Sports revealed the news on their UFC 4 game and Masvidal, along with Israel Adesanya, was named as the cover star.

His loss just hours after being officially named on the cover caused fans to blame the EA curse on the defeat.

Whilst the curse has often been attributed to NFL, and the Madden series of games, UFC fighters have been caught in its crosshairs before.

The UFC 2 game was announced at the back end of 2015 with Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor adorning the front cover.

Rousey, undefeated at the time, lost in November that year, not that long after the announcement, with Holly Holm ending her reign as bantamweight champion.

McGregor won his next fight against Jose Aldo in December that year but by the time the game came out in mid March 2016 the Irishman had lost just 10 days before to Nate Diaz.

The Notorious was back on the front cover of UFC 3, with the announcement in November 2017 showing him with his two title belts. By the time the game came out he'd vacated one of the belts, he would vacate the next one just two months after the release and lost his next fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Madden curse has hit NFL players in different ways with injuries and loss of form, and even a player changing teams at the last minute, all striking those on the cover of the American football game.

Even the FIFA series from EA has been affected as far back as 1998. David Beckham featured on the cover of the 'Road to FIFA World Cup 1998' game before leaving the competition in disgrace when he was sent off for England against Argentina in their Second Round loss.

Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott, Kaka and Marco Reus are amongst others who have been hit one way or another by the curse.

Whatever you do, don't bet on Israel Adesanya winning his next fight...
