UFC women's strawweight champion Zhang Weili has detailed the condition opponent Joanna Jedrzejczyk was in after their absolute war at UFC 248.

Polish fighter Jedrzejczyk was in a bad way after sustaining a horrific hematoma in what many are calling the greatest women's fight in UFC history.

Weili, who emerged victorious via split decision, also headed to hospital after the slugest and recalled Jedrzejczyk continuously crying in pain over the severe swelling that made her look almost unrecognisable.

"After the match, Joanna and I, we both met at the hospital. We arrived at the hospital almost at the same time. There was just a curtain between us," Zhang said, as per the South China Morning Post.

"She kept crying for hours. I felt very sad. I especially wanted to comfort her. But the language barrier, I can only tell her, 'Good job! You did very well. You are very good'.

"Then she kept crying, covering her head. And I feel very sad, to be honest. Although she was disrespectful to me before. But I saw her injury while crying. I felt bad for her."

While there was bad blood between the pair going into the bout, the two shared a respectful moment as Jedrzejczyk was preparing to leave.

Zhang added: "When she left [hospital] - I am waiting for the examination - when she left, she told me this, and I was particularly moved. She said: 'Keep defending and I will watch you. It will get harder and harder'.

"I almost shed tears. At that time, I felt the warrior should be like this."

Jedrzejczyk has been suspended for two months and is not allowed contact until April 22. The 32-year old announced she will undergo surgery in her native Poland.
